The local APLO Photo Club meets monthly on the fourth Thursday of the month in the lower community room of the Oconee Peoples Bank at 991 Lake Oconee Parkway, Eatonton, GA, 31024. Each month, we have a photo topic and members present their photos for sharing and discussion. Our members range from beginners to semi-professional and shoot with cell phones, point and shoot cameras, DSLR cameras, and mirror-less cameras. What we have in common is a passion for photography. We love to share ideas and learn from each other. We take field trips together and we socialize together. We have a great time. Visitors are welcome to attend any meeting. Come check us out.
Our photo topic for one monthly assignment was \u201cabstract.\u201d Cherry Leverette presented the first photograph. While living in Arizona, she often visited Jerome, a small town that is full of artisans. In one shop, they had \u201cone of a kind\u201d kaleidoscopes. She was playing with a very large one that was mounted on a stand. She decided to experiment with her camera. After choosing a pattern that she liked, she shot down the barrel and got this shot. We encourage our members to experiment, and Cherry certainly is willing to do that. She got a great result! Her camera was a Nikon D5200, using an 18-55mm lens. The settings were ISO 640, f4.8, at 1\/60 sec. and 32 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The second photograph is by her husband, Ben Leverette. This was taken at Marco Island, Florida. The subject is the frond of a very large Bird of Paradise plant. He found the chevron design and coloration of the frond appealing to his eye. The size of this plant was as large as a tree, in contrast to most that are only 4-5 feet tall. Ben used a Sony camera, with a 75-300 mm lens, set at 160 mm, with an ISO of 200, f5.6, at 1\/160 sec., and using a flash. I agree with his assessment. The result is appealing.
