This month’s spotlight athlete is Riley Phelan, a sixth grader at Athens Academy. Riley loves basketball, but he also plays soccer for Athens United Soccer Club. He has played forward and goalie for Athens United for five years. His role models for his sports are Kyrie Irving of the Boston Celtics and Coach Christian at Athens United.
He attributes a lot of his success in soccer to the structured teaching of Coach Christian. Riley states, “Coach Christian motivates through competition at every opportunity. He makes you earn your position.” Riley has lived at the Georgia Club since he was six months old, along with his sister Lyla. He loves TGC because of the friendly and welcoming atmosphere and people. He thoroughly enjoys hanging out with his friends at the club and playing golf.
