Luxury Living Georgia-Great Waters

Featured Home: Inside The Gates

Featured Home October 2018: Reynolds, Lake Oconee

“Everyone just loved that house during Caravan,” says Realtor Traci Nelson of a home in Great Waters. “It’s got great curb appeal, and it’s perfect for today’s buyers. It’s just the perfect size.”

There’s much to admire about this home – who doesn’t love a great Cape Cod with a deep front porch? Inside, there are more features that tick your boxes. This 3100+ sq ft house is reminiscent of a well-maintained, well-loved farmhouse, and takes advantage of quaint shiplap walls complimented by comfortable furniture and pops of color. Gleaming heart pine floors create a warm, welcoming space that is very easy to imagine as being full of family, love and laughter.

“We felt this home was exactly what we wanted – something very hard to find in today’s market,” says Kim Rathburn of the home she and husband Jim purchased in 2012. The layout of the home is open, but makes good use of the space. This home interjects personality into each room, with interesting nooks, built-in shelving and inviting area transitions.

“We loved the layout,” echoes Jim. “Two large porches extending the length of the house make it great for entertaining, and we enjoy having the master on the main floor. We also love that two of the bedrooms upstairs have their own bathrooms and the other two-bedroom “family suite” shares a Jack and Jill bathroom. With the center loft area upstairs for a second gathering space, it’s perfect for out-of-town family and guests.”

“A Secret Gem”

The kitchen and sitting areas are situated along the lake side of the house share a scenic vista through the expanse of windows, while the open floor plan also allows the homeowners to prepare meals without missing out on conversations with family and guests. In a home that is as loved as this one, it’s hard for the homeowners to say which was their favorite. But the screened-in back porch with those lake views has got to be right up there.

Kim calls Great Waters a “scenic, hidden gem” at Lake Oconee, and says they absolutely love the drive through the countryside to get to the subdivision. The farms and fields surrounding this picturesque community are part of the many reasons the Rathburns were drawn to the area. But inside the gates, the family were soon charmed by their fellow residents.  “We love the peaceful street that we live on where our girls can ride their bikes and play outside.  We have wonderful neighbors up and down the street and throughout the community, which has been a delightful benefit.”

Why Lake Oconee?

Before moving to Lake Oconee, the Rathburns were residents of Alpharetta.  “We would spend weekends at Lake Oconee…either with friends, at the Ritz Carlton or renting a home,” Jim explains. “The busier Atlanta life would get, the more we enjoyed our time at the lake. Our children have experienced wake boarding, tubing, fishing, boating and the jumping rock! Kim and I have really loved the community and lake….along with the tennis, golf and abundance of youth and adult activities.  Reynolds does a fantastic job creating activities for all ages. Prior to purchasing here, we looked at the option of buying a home in Florida. Realistically, it was too far and we would need to fly… which would obviously limit the number of trips and time we could spend there. With Lake Oconee only being 90 miles from Atlanta… it was a very easy choice for us. We could hop in the car on a Friday afternoon and be relaxing on the lake before dinner!”

If it weren’t for an impending job transfer, Kim and Jim doubt they’d leave the area. “After you sit on the back porch, you’ll never want to leave,” Kim confides. “This is a lake house with beautiful views and a welcoming comfort that makes everyone feel right at home.”

This lovely home is offered for sale at $699,000. If you are interested in hearing more about this home, please call Kim at 706-338-0757, or visit the website at www.kimandlinlogan.com.
